Delivery of an 28-pole synchronous motor for a paper mill in France
Delivery of an electrically and mechanically exchangeable reserve motor for two vacuum pump drives, make: Strömberg, type: HSSTL. In its works in Rouen, the company UPM operates two 18-year old Strömberg synchronous motors. The motors are designed with two shaft ends, each motor driving four vacuum pumps. The power of the motors is 1,200 kW, the speeds are 214 1/min (28-pole) and 250 1/min (24-pole). As the vacuum generation is a key function in the paper manufacturing process, UPM had tendered the delivery of a reserve machine.
HELMKE was in competition with all wellknown European manufacturers, also with ABB who could revert to the original manufacturing documents. In the course of this project HELMKE developed an 28-pole synchronous motor in type of construction IM7312. This motor could be installed on the baseframe on site which was cast in concrete.
The technical requirements were as follows:
- 100% mechanically exchangeable with the original Strömberg motors
- Identical rotor construction by keeping the original starting torques without significant voltage drops
- Identical design and position of the stator terminal boxes and auxiliary terminal boxes
- Delivery including baseframe for load test and transport
- Design with increased efficiency eta = 94.5% instead of 93.8% (ABB)
- Disassembly of the original Strömberg machine and assembly of the new reserve motor by HELMKE personnel within 48 hours
