Since its foundation in 1922 by Johann Helmke (picture) the name HELMKE stands for electrical drives of highest quality.

FAQ – Electric Motors, Drive Systems & Service
Can HELMKE supply replacement electric motors for other manufacturers (e. g. Loher, Schorch, Siemens, ASEA, BBC, AEG, Westinghouse)?
Yes. HELMKE GmbH specializes in the manufacture of replacement and replica motors for other manufacturers as well. In particular, for discontinued motor series, special designs or legacy installations – regardless of mounting type, cooling method, application or local conditions (e. g. ATEX versions for hazardous areas with explosive gas atmospheres, Zone 1 and 2, or combustible dust atmospheres, Zone 21 and 22) – HELMKE manufactures custom-fit replacement motors (asynchronous motors / synchronous motors) according to customer specifications, including adaptation to existing installation dimensions and operating conditions.
Does HELMKE also repair electric motors and generators from other manufacturers?
Yes. HELMKE offers repair, overhaul and modernization of electric motors and generators from a wide range of manufacturers, including but not limited to:
Alstom, Siemens, ABB, Converteam, Marelli, Ansaldo, Jeumont Schneider, AEG, AEM, Schorch, VEM Sachsenwerk, General Electric and WEG.
All repairs are carried out in accordance with current standards and using state-of-the-art testing and measurement technology.
Does HELMKE supply complete drive systems including power electronics?
Yes. HELMKE supplies complete electric drive systems with full system responsibility. These include:
- Electric motor
- Frequency converter (power electronics)
- Optional transformer
- Optional gearbox
All components are optimally matched to each other and designed for the specific industrial application.
Load tests up to 6,000 kW can be carried out in HELMKE’s in-house test facilities. By simulating the specific plant scenario, optimal pre-configuration of the components (e.g. frequency converters) is possible, reducing on-site commissioning time to a minimum.
Of course, HELMKE also offers factory acceptance tests in the presence of the customer.
Does HELMKE perform worldwide commissioning?
Yes. HELMKE carries out worldwide commissioning of electric drive systems using its own qualified personnel. The service includes electrical and mechanical commissioning, functional testing, and on-site technical support.
Does HELMKE keep electric motors in stock?
Yes. HELMKE maintains a comprehensive stock of:
- IEC standard motors
- Brand-new high-voltage motors
- ATEX motors in low and high voltage versions
- Slip ring motors
This enables short delivery times and rapid response in the event of unplanned plant downtime.
Can HELMKE modify or retrofit stock motors?
Yes. HELMKE specializes in short-notice modification and conversion of stock motors to adapt them precisely to the specific application. Especially in emergency or breakdown situations, fast and reliable solutions can be implemented.
Upon request, HELMKE also handles logistics, on-site removal and installation of the motors, including professional commissioning.
